In addition to his work as a professor, he held various offices during his time at Aalen University, including Deputy Head of the Department of Surface Technology and Materials Science and Dean of the Department of Economics. As rector, he also played a key role in guiding the fortunes of Aalen University from 1997 to 2007. In 2009, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his achievements in the development of Aalen University of Applied Sciences and for his voluntary work. Even after his retirement, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ekbert Hering was still active as a scientist and lecturer and remained closely associated with Aalen University of Applied Sciences until his death.
In Mr. Hering, we have lost an outstanding academic personality, a clever shaper of university development and a people-oriented colleague who was always passionate about supporting students and the future of our university. He was highly respected and appreciated by professors, staff and students. His great commitment, his foresight and his tireless dedication to Aalen University and the region will remain unforgettable.
We will keep Professor Hering and his work in grateful memory. Our sympathy goes out to his family and all relatives.
The funeral service will take place on May 18, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the Mariä Himmelfahrt Church in Lautern.
