Optical technologies make a significant contribution to employment and value creation both now and in the future. However, they also play a major role in research, teaching and Further Education. In order to stay up to date in the fields of optics and photonics and to exchange ideas with industry representatives about upcoming developments, our working group leaders from the Center for Optical Technologies (ZOT) are currently in San Francisco at"Photonics West 2023".
This is one of the most important annual events at which the best of research and technology in the field of photonics is presented. International leaders from science, industry and government come together to exchange ideas and information. Research in the fields of biomedical optics, biophotonics, industrial lasers, optoelectronics, microfabrication, MOEMS-MEMS, displays, quantum technologies, including Quantum 2.0, among others, will be discussed.
The City of Aalen recently decided to subsidize two endowed professorships in the field of photonics at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The city is providing a total of around 533,000 euros over five years. The Ostalbkreis district and the city of Oberkochen as well as two well-known companies in the region are also involved. One endowed professorship will be dedicated to the subject of "Applied Quantum Information Processing", the other to "Laser Material Processing". These professorships will benefit the Optical Engineering and Applied Photonics degree programs in particular. This means that Aalen University of Applied Sciences is on the right track for the future. Photonics is a key technology that has mastered the balancing act between tradition and transformation.
