"Now my planned semester abroad at a university in Bali is within reach. Because with the Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship program), I can finance part of the semester fees," says Tamina Eppler happily. The Business Psychology student is one of 28 students who are currently funded with a Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship program) at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The fact that this large number of scholarships can be awarded is mainly due to the generous support of mainly regional companies - there are currently 15 sponsors. Sponsors and scholarship holders came together at the joint club event at the institution of higher education.
Valuable contacts to the economy, financial, cost-effective
"We are very proud that we have such a large group of Germany Scholarship students here, who are distinguished by their outstanding commitment and talent," said Vice President Prof. Dr. Andreas Ladurner in his welcoming address. On behalf of Aalen University of Applied Sciences, he thanked the sponsoring companies: "Especially in economically difficult times, when money is no longer quite so loose, it is still important to support young people. And we are extremely grateful for this." The scholarship enables students to concentrate fully on their studies and at the same time make valuable contacts in the economy, business. "This networking is invaluable for their future appointments," says Ladurner. There are currently 15 predominantly regional companies that make the scholarships possible through their support.
Outstanding assignment, credit, performance
The Deutschlandstipendium scholarships are awarded to students and first-year students whose personal background indicates outstanding assignment, credit, performance in Studies and appointments for professors; appointment funds. In addition to convincing marks (UK), grades (US), social commitment and special personal assignments, credit, performance are also taken into account. Those who meet these prerequisite(s) receive 150 euros a month from one of the sponsors. The federal government then adds another 150 euros on top, so that scholarship holders receive a total of 300 euros.
Great interest in School of Engineering
At the joint club event in the large Senate room at Aalen University of Applied Sciences, representatives of the sponsoring companies - such as Kreissparkasse Ostalb, Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH or Inneo Solutions GmbH - met with the scholarship holders. Take Felix Haack, for example, who is sponsored by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. After completing a voluntary social year in the emergency services, the 21-year-old initially did vocational training in the emergency services. "After thinking about it for a while, however, I decided to study Mechanical Engineering in Aalen. School of Engineering has always interested me," says the student, who grew up on a farm. He adds with a laugh: "There was always something to repair."
"So I can concentrate fully on my studies"
Alongside his Studies, Haack continues to work in the emergency services to earn money. "However, as I have quite cost-intensive hobbies such as triathlon and marine aquariums, I am very happy about the financial support from the Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship programme). I already have a few new fish on my shopping list," says the student with a mischievous grin. His fellow student and buddy Aaron Lutz, who has also been studying General Mechanical Engineering at Aalen University of Applied Sciences since the winter semester 2023/24 and is funded by the Gips-Schüle Foundation, also thinks the Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship programme) is great. "To be honest, I hadn't expected it and I'm super happy that it worked out. It means I don't have to work during the examination period and can concentrate fully on my studies." And the trained two-wheel mechatronics technician still has a little time for his great passion, motorcycles.
Important bridge between academic study and workplace training; academic knowledge and practical experience
Anja Sapper, who works in HR at Max Schlatter GmbH & Co. KG, also thinks the Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship programme) is a great thing - as well as providing financial support through close contact, it also builds an important bridge between academic study and workplace training; theory and practical experience. The company for drive belts, conveyor belts and special belts from Herbrechtingen has been supporting students with the Germany Scholarship, Deutschlandstipendium for several years now and maintains a close exchange with them: "We benefit greatly from the young people, because they bring a lot of motivation and new input with them." After the round of introductions and the presentation of the Diploma, Business Science and Management certificate to the new scholarship holders, architect Gabriele Ebbinghaus from the University Development Building department gave a tour of the WIN building, where the Faculty of Management and Business Science and the International Center have had their new home since last June.
