"Only 1.2 percent of students at German universities receive the Deutschlandstipendium," emphasized Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Iman Taha in her welcoming address at the award ceremony for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarships, adding: "I am therefore particularly pleased to meet such top-class students as you today."
The Deutschlandstipendium is an established Germany-wide funding program aimed at particularly talented and committed students - regardless of their financial situation or that of their parents. The recipients receive 300 euros per month, half of which is financed by private donors such as companies, foundations or alumni and half by the federal government. As a rule, support is initially granted for two semesters, but can be extended until the end of the standard period of study.
The aim of the program is to give greater recognition to academic achievements and at the same time promote cooperation between universities of Applied Sciences and industry. In addition to excellent academic achievements, social commitment and special personal circumstances are also taken into account in the selection process.
After the welcoming address, the new scholarship holders took the opportunity to introduce themselves personally: Celine Braxmeier, Christiane Stickel, David Drössler, Sophia Straub, Selma Wagner, Svenja Widmaier, Bianca Fausel, Lukas Fürst and Maximilian Hauf. Prof. Dr. Iman Taha then presented the certificates to the new scholarship holders.
"Thanks to the scholarship, I can finally move to Aalen and can maintain social contacts after the end of lectures and concentrate even more on my studies instead of commuting almost every day," says Selma Wagner from Schorndorf, who is studying Biopharmaceutical Sciences in her fourth semester and is sponsored by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. For David Drössler, who has already worked as a development engineer and is now studying for a Master's degree inMechatronics / Systems Engineering, the funding is also a welcome relief: "As the Deutschlandstipendium is not only aimed at Bachelor students, it is a great support for me, who has already had a career, especially with regard to health insurance, for example."
