Since 2006, Aalen University has been one of the strongest research universities for applied sciences in Germany. We bring innovation to the region through our five key research areas.

Key research areas and institutes

We conduct research in three strategic fields: Energy converters, energy storage and lightweight products. The cross-cutting topics of machine learning, additive manufacturing and the circular economy also play a role in all research projects. We have therefore divided our work into five key research areas.

Research Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee for Research Projects supports researchers at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences in fulfilling their ethical responsibilities. The Ethics Committee for Research Projects at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences was established by the university’s Senate in June 2023.

Researchers at Aalen University of Applied Sciences may have their research reviewed by the Ethics Committee for Research Projects before the project begins. Each request must first be submitted as a brief application, on which a decision will be made within two weeks during the academic term or four weeks during the summer break. Research projects that fall under the Declaration of Helsinki are, by statute, excluded from this review process. Researchers at the University of Applied Sciences who are interested in publishing the results of their project are eligible to submit applications.
