Whether it's cosmic algorithms, hands-on humanoid robotics, fascinating multimedia worlds of experience or the superpower of Chemistry - the Open Campus at Aalen University of Applied Sciences is all about amazement, learning and participation. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Waldcampus with the associated WIN and Digital Innovation Space (DIS) buildings at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The diverse program invites visitors to get to know the superheroes of the University of Applied Sciences, take a look behind the scenes of teaching and research and discover their own superpowers.
Special effects
"Our students, lecturers and researchers are the 'superheroes of everyday life' - they show how they tackle social challenges for a better future with knowledge, curiosity and great commitment," says University Rector Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel, adding with a smile: "They may not be able to fly or teleport, but they definitely have one or two special effects up their sleeves!"
Over 60 heroic actions
Over 60 heroic demonstrations, interactive hands-on activities, informative lectures, creative workshops, amazing experiments and exciting highlights await the guests and show the wide range of future topics that Aalen University of Applied Sciences is working on. For example, visitors can discover bio-based composite materials around the topics of 3D printing and recycling, which can be used to produce more environmentally friendly, lighter components in the future. "Contactless. Pressure-resistant. Merciless." is the theme of the laboratory for power electronics and electric drives: a special demonstrator shows power electronics and drive technology for the deep sea, which can be used at depths of up to 6000 meters. Mysterious power crystals full of super strength are created in a 3D pen activity and the LaserApplicationCenter (LAZ) shows how superheroes can improve the world with lasers.
Up close and personal with the humanoid robot
On the Physician Assistant course, you can look over the shoulders of medical superheroes and experience interactive resuscitation. The "Mechanical Engineers" offer hands-on humanoid robotics : here, visitors can control the humanoid robot "Unitree G1" themselves and experience how it explores its environment. At the University of Applied Sciences' Start-up campus , interested visitors can immerse themselves in the world of start-ups and meet real start-up heroes from the region. And the Media Center team invites you on an immersive journey in the 360-degree Dome Theater in the basement of the DIS.
Kids, watch out!
There is also plenty on offer for the youngest visitors: Dawid, the "data wizard", is available as an interactive chatbot who teaches topics such as "What is data?" or "How can things be measured?" in an age-appropriate and fun way. In explorhino 's Tinkering Studio, children and young people can grasp STEM in the truest sense of the word and create rolling objects or their own soundscapes. At the LEGO® Challenge, young tinkerers can build their own superheroes or solder them together in the soldering workshop. What can magnets do? What does your own smartphone look like? Materials research you can touch and try out at the hands-on station of the Institute for Materials Research at Aalen University of Applied Sciences (IMFAA).
Information at the Superhero Center
Prospective students who want to discover their superpowers can stop by the Superhero Center and learn all about the University of Applied Sciences' wide range of Study Programmes or have their fortune told at the University Oracle. At the International Center, which has its home in the WIN building, you can get in touch with international students and find out why Aalen University of Applied Sciences is a gateway to the world. And since a hero's journey is known to make you quite hungry and thirsty, visitors can fortify themselves at the Food Truck Market held especially for the Open Campus. Recharge your batteries and relax.
Helping to shape the future
"We are looking forward to welcoming many visitors - especially, of course, many prospective students. After all, anyone who decides to study engineering, business or health is choosing to actively help shape our future. And this is where the true superpower lies: using knowledge to make our world a little bit better," emphasizes University Rector Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel.
Info: A heroic guided campus tour starts at 1 pm. The meeting point is the info point in front of the DIS. The complete program and further information can be found here.
