In eleven regional competitions, 102 young researchers with 61 projects have qualified for the final of the state competition Jugend forscht Baden-Württemberg. From March 25th to 27th, they will face the vote of a qualified jury in seven subject areas at Aalen University of Applied Sciences and hope to make it to the national finals, which will take place at the end of May in Herzogenaurach (Bavaria). In the subject areas, technology is the most strongly represented with eleven projects, followed by biology and mathematics/computer science with ten projects each. "The topics of the competing projects are particularly diverse this year. They range from work on a filter system that can remove microplastics from water to intelligent weed eradication using a laser beam. I am impressed by the wealth of ideas and the level of achievement of our young researchers," says Heiko Stangl, head of the state competition.

Aalen University of Applied Sciences as host
Aalen University of Applied Sciences with its modern campus is the venue for the 61st state competition Jugend forscht. The young people will present their projects to the juries in the fields of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology. In addition to the valuable jury feedback, the competition is the perfect opportunity for young people to develop new ideas and research questions, network with each other and take part in exciting workshops and guided tours.

"As a research-oriented University of Applied Sciences, we are particularly keen to awaken the spirit of research in young people. How else can the challenges of the future be mastered?" says Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel, Rector of Aalen University of Applied Sciences. "Whether it's about health, sustainable mobility or artificial intelligence – it will always be ambitious and curious scientists who take us forward," continues Riegel.

This year, Aalen University of Applied Sciences is sponsoring the state competition alongside natec-Landesverband für naturwissenschaftlich-technische Jugendbildung Baden-Württemberg and the Science Center experimenta.
