Young researchers honored in "Jugend forscht" competition

Numerous research projects at Aalen University of Applied Sciences were rewarded with prizes

They tinkered and experimented: At the weekend, young researchers presented their research projects to the jury at the regional "Jugend forscht " competition in East Württemberg at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The 64 research projects of the 121 participants were honored in six Departments / Divisions.

Under the motto "Maximum perspective!", 121 young researchers put their skills to the test last weekend at the "Jugend forscht" regional competition in East Wuerttemberg. Hundreds of guests attended the public day and the competition ceremony at Aalen University of Applied Sciences on Saturday. After the projects had already been enthusiastically presented to a jury from industry, schools and institutions of higher education on Friday, the participants eagerly awaited their placings on Saturday. The competition director Sonja Fick and Vice Rector of Aalen University of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Anja Dieckmann hosted the ceremony.

From a camping washing machine and a self-scanning shopping basket to a magnetic levitation car and a ClimateBot, in which different climate conditions for plants can be tested: The range of research work was diverse. In the Departments / Divisions of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics / Computer Science, Technology, Working Environment and Physics, vacancies, free) places were awarded in the "Jugend forscht junior" (researchers under 15 years of age) and "Jugend forscht" (researchers over 15 years of age) categories.

In the Department / Division of Working Environment, Clemens Powolny won first prize with his project "Is it hanging? But for sure!" won first prize. Jan Müller and Tizian von Entress-Fürsteneck also took first place in the Department / Division of Working Environment for their project "Right - AI-supported platform for personalized learning". Ricarda Zimmermann and Charlotte Franz were awarded first prize in the Department of Biology for their project "Chestnuts in the spotlight - What's behind the fluorescent liquid?". Magnus Engelhard and Luke Fischer received first prize for their topic "Electrolysis! Our answer to climate change!" in the Department / Division of Chemistry. In the Department / Division of Mathematics and Computer Science, Micha Hammel's project "Project Registration Portal" was awarded first prize. "SortiMate - Automated waste separation with AI" by Justin Faltus took first place in the Department / Division of Engineering. Viktoria Tönges was also awarded first prize in the Department of Engineering for "How does upcycling plastic from the Yellow Bag work?". Particularly committed schools received a school prize of 250 euros from the IHK Ostwürttemberg.

The winners of the regional level qualified for the Baden-Württemberg state competition, which will take place again this year from March 25 to 27 at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences, and for the state competition of the "junior" division in Balingen.
