Business Information Systems graduates celebrate tenth anniversary

A decade of Business Information Systems was duly celebrated at Aalen University of Applied Sciences

On November 29, 2024, the "10 Years of Business Information Systems" ceremony took place in the new Great Hall. Students, alumni, partners from corporate practice, staff and Professors / Professors celebrated the anniversary of the degree program and took the opportunity to network diligently.

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Anja Dieckmann opened the commemorative event, festive event ceremony and, in her welcoming address on behalf of the Rectorate, paid tribute to the great variety of Study Programmes offered, which have been built up since then thanks to the great commitment of those involved.

Professor Dr. Manfred Rössle, a pioneer from the very beginning, reviewed the history of the Studies, which initially began in 2002 in the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Science. This eventually led to an independent field (of) within the Management and Business Science faculty in the 2014/2015 winter semester, the anniversary of which has now been celebrated. "Business Information Systems specialists are essential for companies, as they drive the digitalization and automation of processes, supervise ERP systems, analyse data and develop AI applications," emphasized Rössle, also with a view to the future of the degree programme.

Despite limited personnel and facilities resources, two full-time undergraduate Bachelor's programs (Business Information Systems and Business Analytics) and a consecutive masters/master's programme in Business Information Systems (with the disciplines of Data Science and Business Analytics) have been established within just a few years. In addition, there are three masters/master's programmes for working professionals: Business Information Systems, IT Security Management (from summer semester 2025: Cyber Security) and Data Science, Data Science and Business Analytics. Measured in terms of resources, this broad range of programs contributes disproportionately to the number of students at Aalen University of Applied Sciences.

Together with the parallel successes achieved in the area of third-party funding and in the creation of doctoral study programs (including in connection with the Baden-Württemberg Doctoral Association), a remarkable development was demonstrated.

Finally, as part of the program item "Success Stories Alumni", a number of graduates reported on their respective personal backgrounds in business practice. It became clear that the Business Information Systems degree programmes at Aalen University of Applied Sciences not only provide a strong basis for starting a career, but also for professional and personal development.

At the concluding get-together, all those present agreed that they can look forward to the next ten years of Business Information Systems at Aalen University of Applied Sciences and beyond with joy and optimism.
