Turning meatloaf rolls into code

Lots of fun and great assignments, credit, performances at the Aalen Night of Code 2024 at Aalen University of Applied Sciences

Under the motto "Turning meatloaf rolls into code", the third edition of the Aalen Night of Code took place on October 19 and 20, 2024 at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. In addition to exciting programming challenges around artificial intelligence, robotics, Operations Research, math puzzles and web development, the event offered free catering for the participating students.

The concept obviously also convinced the students at Aalen University of Applied Sciences: Within a few days of going live, the available 70 vacancies, (free) places were completely booked out. A colorful mix of Bachelor's and Master's students from the Faculties of Electronics and Computer Science as well as Business Science were gathered. "We were delighted to welcome some students from other institutions of higher education," said Professor Dr. Christian Koot, course coordinator of the Masters (UK)/master's (US) in Business Information Systems / Data Science and Business Analytics / Cyber Security (for working professionals) and one of the patrons of the event (US).

After a welcome and presentation of the coding challenges, the participants got straight to work, fortified by meat loaf sandwiches or a vegetarian alternative: the meat loaf sandwiches were literally turned into code. Drinks and snacks helped the students to work through the night.

The presentations of the work results took place during the joint breakfast. In many cases, impressive solutions were shown, which made everyone involved want to do it again next year. Once again this year, attractive prizes were raffled off among the talk; lectures at the end of the event.

The event (generally) was made possible by the association Freunde der Business Information Systems Aalen e.V. (FdWIA e.V.) and a number of sponsors (including Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG, Röwaplan AG, P-A-Systems UG).
