"Time has flown by"

Long-standing staff at Aalen University of Applied Sciences honored

The 48 jubilarians who have now been honored by President Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel for their many years of staff at Aalen University of Applied Sciences have proudly celebrated 890 years of service. One of them is Claus Maurer. For 40 years, the Caretaker (Brit. Engl.) Janitor has been the man for all occasions and, together with his colleagues, ensures that everyday university life runs smoothly. "I like the work. You get around, every day is different. I couldn't sit in the office all the time," says Claus Maurer, "and the contact with the students keeps you flexible."

At the anniversary ceremony in the new WIN building (Economy, Business and International Affairs), President Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel and Chancellor Ulrike Messerschmidt paid tribute to the Professors / lecturers / members of staff and Visiting Lecturers for their great commitment to Aalen University of Applied Sciences and the public service. In addition, five professors and three staff members were bid farewell to their retirement. Riegel presented golden, silver and bronze badges of honor and found humorous and very personal words for each of the jubilarians and the "retirees".

"The past ten years have flown by," says Gaby Ketzer-Raichle, laughing cheerfully. The metallographer is head of the materialography laboratory at the institution of higher education and gives lectures in the Electives in Materialography. "Passing on the knowledge I have accumulated over the years and my enthusiasm for my subject to the students is very rewarding," says Ketzer-Raichle. The 62-year-old is just as enthusiastic about the aesthetics of metallic structures as she was in her early days as a metallographer: "It's almost like art and never gets boring - just like the cooperation, cooperative venture, partnership, collaboration with the students."
