Next alumni meeting/continuing optometric education (COE): September 26/27 2026

Continuing Optometric Education (COE) events are organized every year by the Alumni Association, the Aalen Friends of Optometry, at the end of September. The monestry in Benediktbeuern offers the perfect setting for this event. Alumni meetings are the place to be for experienced optometrists and ODs to share their knowledge and for current students and alumni to gain valuable insight into the professional world and challenges in the latest research in optometry. All lectures are presented by internationally renowned experts in the field of optometry, some of whom travel all the way from the US just to share their knowledge at this event.

This Aalen Master Alumni event is a great example of how important it is in the field of optometry to share cases of all kinds unusual and innovative solutions. It has proven to be a valuable opportunity for the optometrist community to learn from experienced professionals and gain a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of optometry and ophthalmology. Alumni continuing optometric education (COE) events foster a sense of unity and shared competencies within the optometry community.

Tu, 18. November 2025 → Happy faces and a great atmosphere at the Aalen University graduation ceremony: 20 Bachelor's and Master's graduates celebrated the successful completion of their optometry studies. The 18 Karl Amon Optometry Award was also presented during the ceremony. This year, the prize, endowed with a total of 2,000 euros, went to Natascha Lanz and Xenia Bieche.

Th, 13. November 2025 → Das Auge – ein kleines Organ mit großer Leistung. Es sammelt Licht, wandelt es in elektrische Signale um und lässt in einem hochkomplexen Zusammenspiel mit dem Gehirn Farben, Formen und Bewegungen lebendig werden. „Die Komplexität des Auges ist faszinierend und ein spannendes Forschungsobjekt“, sagt Prof. Dr. Christina Schwarz begeistert. Seit März 2025 lehrt die Professorin für Optometrie an der Hochschule Aalen und ist dabei, eine Forschungsgruppe zum Thema „Adaptive Optiken für die Optometrie“ (AdOpt) aufzubauen. Unterstützt wird die Physikerin jetzt durch das Förderprogramm EXPLOR der Abtsgmünder Stiftung Kessler + Co. für Bildung und Kultur.

13. International Continuing Education Optometry (COE) Congress Latest findings in optometry from science and clinical practice for more than 80 graduates and students from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia and numerous other countries, including those outside of Europe.

Benediktbeuern, Germany - For the 13. time, the Aalen Friends of Optometry Association, together with Aalen University, offered an international continuing education congress for opticians on the weekend of September 20 and 21. For the 11. time, it took place at the Center for Environment and Culture (ZUK) in Benediktbeuern Monastery. Professors from the US and Germany, as well as ophthalmologists and other top-class experts, shared their knowledge.
