Welcome to Aalen University of Applied Sciences!
HOW TO APPLY
We are pleased that you are interested in studying with us. Here you will find all the information for International Degree-Seeking students interested in applying for a Bachelor or Master Program at Aalen University of Applied Sciences (HSAA)
STEP 1: Check your university entrance qualification
If you want to apply for one of our bachelor programs you must provide proof of a so-called university entrance qualification. Depending on your home country or the country where you finished school, the conditions may vary. In general your school-leaving qualification has to be comparable to a German „Abitur“. The homepage of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides a database allows you to pre-check the comparability depending on your home country.
Regarding the university entrance qualification the following regulations are important if you want to apply for a Bachelor program at AAUAS:
Applicants from certain countries can apply directly to a German university because their university entrance qualification fulfills the required standards (e.g. graduates from most European countries, applicants with an IB diploma (International Baccalaureat), applicants with a certain GCE recognition, applicants who have completed one year of studies in a related subject in their home country). Please use the previously mentioned DAAD database in order to pre-check if you have direct access.
However, students with direct access still have to send their school certificates from their home country to the „Studienkolleg Konstanz “ which is in charge of the validation of previous education when applying at universities of applied sciences in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. Students from APS countries (India, China, Vietnam) can apply with their positive APS-result (check detailed information below).
Our university needs the official confirmation (recognition of certificates) from the “Studienkolleg” in order to process your application. Please make sure to hand in all your certificates to „Studienkolleg Konstanz“ or the Academic Evaluation Center (APS) as soon as possible, since it might take several weeks in order to get the official confirmation.
Students without direct access to a German university usually have to take one of the preparation courses offered by the „Studienkolleg Konstanz“ and / or they are asked to pass the DSH-German-language-exam (alternatively you can pass the Test-DaF-exam at Aalen University of Applied Sciences).
If you have to take the preparation courses offered by “Studienkolleg Konstanz” it usually takes two semesters (1 year) and the courses have to be finished with the so-called “Feststellungsprüfung”. Both, the courses and the “Feststellungsprüfung” are only offered in German language and require a German level of B2. For further information please check the official homepage of the “Studienkolleg”.
Once you have had your foreign credentials examined by the “Studienkolleg” and have successfully passed the German-language examination and (if needed) the “Feststellungsprüfung”, you will receive respective certificates for your application to one of our degree programs. These certificates have to be part of your application documents.
Applicants from China, India and Vietnam can apply directly with a positive APS-result in combination with a TestAS or SAT certificate.
The APS (Academic Evaluation Center) is a joint institution of the German Embassy and the DAAD. The APS checks the authenticity of educational backgrounds and certificates and then verifies if the person has a university entrance qualification for Germany. Students have to hand in the positive APS-Certificate confirming direct access as well as the required TestAS or SAT result. Please make sure to take care of the APS process very quickly after you have received your school certificates, since it might take several weeks to receive the certificate.
- Regarding the TestAS results, the core test and subject-specific engineering module have to be passed. In both parts a score of at least 100 is required. We accept paper-based and digital tests. Further information is available on the homepage of Test AS .
- If you decide to pass the SAT, a minimum of 1050 points in the cholastic assessment test SAT must be achieved. Further information is available on the homepage of SAT.
Applicants who are interested in one of our bachelor programs and have already completed one year of studies in their home country in a related subject area have high chances to be granted direct access to the application process. However, the certificates still have to be handed in at “Studienkolleg” or in the case of India, China, Vietnam at the Academic Evaluation Center (APS). The valid certificates are required to complete the application process to our programs.
Currently the following Bachelor programs are offered in English language:
- Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering) – start in winter term 2025/26
- Mechatronics Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering) – start in winter term 2025/26

When applying to one of our Master programs you will need a successfully completed university degree of three or four years of duration, depending on the country you come from. Your total education, meaning school and university, should consequently have lasted up to a minimum of 15 years. This has to be officially confirmed by one of the institutions mentioned below (Studienkolleg OR uni-assist). Please make sure to hand in your school leaving certificates as well as your bachelor certificate to one of the institutions as soon as possible. The process might take up to 6 weeks and you have to hand in the official institutional confirmation letter together with the other required documents when applying at Aalen University of Applied Sciences.
Next to the confirmation letter and the required language certificate (see below), some of our master programs may require further qualifications. Please check the respective official homepages of the master programs in order to learn more about these requirements.
