To apply for a specific programme, it is essential to meet the entry requirements and specific deadlines.

On this page, you get a complete overview of the application process at Aalen University.

Application process for Master programmes

At Aalen University, you must apply online at the Online Application Portal.

Please read the following articles carefully as they will provide you with all necessary information on how to apply for a Master programme at Aalen University.

Before starting the online application process, please ensure you have a digital copy of your Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree at hand.

  1. Go to the Online Application Portal. Fill in all required information.
  2. After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email which provides you with a link to the Master Upload Portal.
  3. Follow the link to the Master Upload Portal. Log in with the data given to you in the email. Upload all necessary documents (includes Bachelor’s degree, preliminary final grade certificate and second school‑leaving certificate).
  4. Wait for your application to be processed. Please check your application status regularly using the Online Tools. In case there should be any documents missing, it will show there. If your application was successful, you will receive the enrolment forms shortly after the deadline.

If you need to know as soon as possible whether your application was successful, you can check its status 1‑2 days after the deadline online (Online Tools)– even before they are send to you by mail!


Please pay attention to the following deadlines for Master programme applications. It is not possible to apply to Aalen University after these dates.

  • 15 January for the summer term
  • 15 July for the winter term

The deadlines for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing and Advanced System Designs differ from the above‑mentioned ones. Their respective deadlines are:

  • 30 November for the summer term
  • 15 June for the winter term

Polymer Technology:

  • 15 November for the summer term

These deadlines apply to all applicants including students for higher semesters and lateral entrants.

Please also note that not all programmes start in the summer term. To find out whether an individual programme starts in the summer term, please visit the programme's website and navigate to “Informieren” → “Studienbeginn”.

Online application (preferred):

Before starting the online application process, please ensure you have a digital copy of your Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree), preliminary final grade certificate and second school‑leaving certificate at hand. Please fill in all fields and check your entries.

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email which provides you with data to log in onto the Master Upload Portal. Upload all necessary documents (includes Bachelor’s degree, preliminary final grade certificate and second school‑leaving certificate).

If you spot a mistake in your application after submitting it – do not worry. Simply contact the Admissions Office (zulassung@hs-aalen.de) and correct the mistake.

Postal application:

Fill out the Application form for Master programme and send it to the following address together with copies of your Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree), preliminary final grade certificate and second school‑leaving certificate:

Please do not apply more than one time, since only one application is valid. Only complete applications that are submitted before the deadline participate in the selection process.

Applicants with vocational expertise or experience can earn bonus points for their application. (Important: These bonus points improve the grade of your Bachelor’s or equivalent degree).

After processing all data and checking all certificates, a ranking list based on grades is compiled. (Important: Some programmes have a minimum grade. If your grade is lower than the minimum, you are not included in the ranking list). From the top of the list a certain number of applicants is chosen to study at Aalen University.

We do not need you to decline admission, so you do not have to do anything.

Our employees at the Student Advisory Service can help you make your decision. In addition, you can attend the Campus Day which is held 2‑3 months before the upcoming term. At the event, you will learn more about your programme of choice and get to know the campus. There is a special Campus Day for Master students each term – ask at the respective department for more information.
