Application process for Bachelor programmes

At Aalen University, you must apply online. Here you find the Online Application Portal.

Please read the following articles carefully as they will provide you with all necessary information on how to apply for a Bachelor programme at Aalen University.


Before starting the online application process, please ensure you have a digital copy of your secondary school‑leaving certificate at hand.

  1. Go to the Online Application Portal. Fill in all required information.
  2. After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email which provides you with a link for uploading your secondary school‑leaving certificate.
  3. Follow the link and upload ONLY your secondary school‑leaving certificate in due time.
  4. (optional) In case any additional documents are required, send those to the admission office of Aalen University BY MAIL. Please ensure that all documents are certified (additional information on what “certified” means can be found here).
  5. Done. If your application was successful, you will receive the enrolment forms shortly after the deadline.

If you need to know as soon as possible whether your application was successful, you can check its status online only 1‑2 days after the deadline (via Online Tools)– even before they are send to you by mail!

Please pay attention to the following deadlines for applications. It is not possible to apply to Aalen University after these dates.

  • 15 January for the summer term
  • 15 July for the winter term

These deadlines apply to all applicants including students of higher terms and lateral entrants.

Please also note that some programmes do not admit students to start in the summer term. To find out whether a programme starts in the summer term, please visit the respective programme’s website.

To study a Bachelor programme at Aalen University, you need what is known as a “higher education entrance qualification” (German: “Hochschulzugangsberechtigung”). This generally translates to a secondary school‑leaving certificate, such as a High School Diploma or a equivalent certificate/diploma.

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email which provides you with a link for uploading your secondary school‑leaving certificate.

If you spot a mistake in your application after submitting it – do not worry. Simply contact the Admissions Office and correct the mistake.

Applicants who already completed vocational training or did an internship or are able to give proof of an equivalent qualification can earn bonus points (both Bachelor programmes Business Studies SME and International Business Studies have additional rules for bonus points).

After processing all data and checking all certificates, a ranking list based on grades is compiled. From the top of the list a certain number of applicants is chosen to study at Aalen University. You can check your admission status online or wait for the admission papers being sent to you.

International students

Starting in the winter semester of 2017/18, international students who want to start studying in the mentioned semester have to pay tuition fees of 1500 EUR per semester. Exemption of tuition fees can be granted under certain circumstances.

Excluded from tuition fees are students who are citizens of one of the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Eritrea, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Iraq, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Somalia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.

Second course of study

Please note: When we speak of a second course of study or second academic programme (German: “Zweitstudium”), we mean a second undergraduate program undertaken after a student has already earned one degree (Bachelor or Master) at a higher education institution inside the EU incl. Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.

Starting in the winter semester of 2017/18, second-course-of-study students who want to start studying in the mentioned semester have to pay tuition fees of 650 EUR per semester. Exemption of tuition fees can be granted under certain circumstances.
