Activities

In the summer term 2024, the Research Academy offers five formats:

  • Lunchbreak Sessions: Every second Tuesday over lunch, there is a 30-minute impulse session. The overarching topic of this semester is „Tools for the research process".

  • Workshops: In our workshops, a deeper dive into various topics is offered, facilitating active engagement as well as exchange among the participants. The workshops take place online or face-to-face and last between half a day and two full days.

  • Info events: Various topics are discussed in short information events, with the opportunity to ask questions.

  • Promovierendencafé ("PhD café"):  The first Wednesday each month, from 3 to 4 pm we offer an informal gathering for PhD students and everybody who is interested to chat and discuss anything, across all working groups and faculties. There will be coffee and cake. No need to register, just drop by!

  • Retreat and Exkursion: Once a year, we offer a two-day retreat and an excursion for the university's academic staff. The first retreat took place in October 2023 at the Schönenberg conference centre in Ellwagen.

You can find detailed descriptions of the current programme for download to the right. In the current term, the Lunchbreak Sessions and Workshops are held in German.

Registration for the current workshops is done via the form below.

  • Writefull: Aalen University of Applied Sciences provides licenses for the use of Writefull Pro. Writefull is an AI-based proofreading tool that supports researchers in formulating scientific texts in English in the correct, scientific style and tone. The licenses will be available from June 2023 until the end of May 2024. As an accompanying offer, online meetings will be held approximately every two months, in which users can exchange ideas and ask questions.
  • Overleaf: We provide licenses for the collaborative, cloud-based LaTeX editor Overleaf that can be used for writing, editing, and publishing scientific documents. The licenses will be available from March 2024 until the end of February 2025.
  • E-learning course: We provide access to the self-study course of the National Institute for Science Communication (NaWik). It offers an ideal introduction if you want to communicate your science in social media.

If you are interested in using the tools, drop us a line at researchacademy@hs-aalen.de.

In the context of these events, the university would like to take pictures and publish them (on the university web page, in the newsletter or in print media of the university). In the registration, we ask you for your permission to use your image for these purposes. The permission is voluntary. No disadvantage arises if you do not give this permission or revoke it.
