Dear visitors,

welcome to the website of the Bachelor's program in Process Engineering and Management with its focus on Digital Processes and Systems Innovation at Aalen University.

We are delighted that you are interested in our study program and have found your way to our website. Here you will find everything you need to know about the program, the application process, and much more.

The Process Engineering and Management program commenced under this name for the first time in the winter semester 2024/25. But it is not entirely new. It evolved from the well-established Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing and Management study program (introduced in 2011/2012). Its predecessor Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Technology was one of the most successful study programs at Aalen University, having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010. However, the continuous development and modernization of this program, which we have consistently pursued for years, has now made a name change necessary.

The Bachelor`s program Digital Processes and Systems Innovation is based on three solid foundations:

  1. pragmatic engineering sciences
  2. modern manufacturing processes and
  3. digital manufacturing technologies.

The basic studies lay a robust foundation for extensive technical knowledge, coupled with the important understanding needed to evaluate digital manufacturing processes and implement innovative solutions for companies.

In the advanced study period, you will gain in-depth knowledge of important future-oriented manufacturing processes and technologies. The numerous laboratories of the program offer ideal opportunities to learn and apply these technologies in a practical manner, from simulation to application, for example in our laboratories for Industry 4.0/Smart Factory, additive manufacturing, robotics, or laser technology. In addition to this practical technological training, you will also learn modern management methods (manufacturing, supply chain, quality, project, value, and general management).

Our graduates, with their distinctive expertise in the future-oriented field of manufacturing-related digitalization, start their careers as experts and technologists with excellent methodological and technical knowledge.

If you do not find the information you are looking for on the program's website, please feel free to contact us personally.

Best regards

Smart digital learning

The Digital Processes and Systems Innovation program is a modern technical study program for a successful engineering career in the manufacturing sector. Our program is aimed at digitally and sustainably oriented technology enthusiasts who initiate projects at the interface of technology, management, and digitalization in the context of Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory.

After completing your basic studies, you can choose to specialize in various subjects in the fields of technology (laser processing, robotics, 3D printing/additive manufacturing, machining, innovative metal forming/lightweight construction, and casting) and management (manufacturing, supply chain, quality, project, value, and general management).

As a graduate with broad manufacturing and process expertise, you will be able to start your career in the following areas in particular:

  • Big data and machine learning
  • Supply chain management
  • Product and project management
  • Production planning
  • Process development
  • Manufacturing control

What makes this study program so special?

Big data, Industry 4.0, and additive manufacturing processes are growing in importance for industry, but also for research. The skill requirements in the manufacturing environment have changed significantly due to increased digitalization in this sector. “Digital Processes and Systems Innovation” is an engineering study program combined with digital methods, technology, and management. You will acquire knowledge in the fundamentals of digitalization, additive manufacturing, machine learning, advanced digitalization, and digital manufacturing planning.

Highlights:

The “International Semester” offers you the option of studying abroad without extending your studies. Students can choose from study places at partner universities (including in the USA, Japan, and South Africa). The fifth semester can also be completed as a practical study semester at a company abroad.
The optional “Green Technology and Economy” certification allows you to demonstrate your knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and resource-efficient technologies.
Close cooperation with laboratories offers unique experiences and initial practical experience.
In addition, it has a modular structure and is closely interlinked with the Process Design and Management and Manufacturing and Process Technology programs in the first semesters.

Further information about our faculty can be found at the following link: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Materials Engineering

If you are interested, it is easy to change programs due to the close interlinking.
