Dear visitors,
welcome to the website of the Bachelor's program in Process Engineering and Management with its focus on Process Design and Management at Aalen University.
We are delighted that you are interested in our study program and have found your way to our website. Here you will find everything you need to know about the program, the application process, and much more.
The Process Engineering and Management program commenced under this name for the first time in the winter semester 2024/25. But it is not entirely new. It evolved from the well-established Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing and Management study program (introduced in 2011/2012). Its predecessor Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Technology was one of the most successful study programs at Aalen University, having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010. However, the continuous development and modernization of this program, which we have consistently pursued for years, has now made a name change necessary.
The Bachelor`s program Process Design and Management is based on three solid foundations:
- pragmatic engineering sciences
- modern business management methods and
- practical manufacturing methods.
The basic studies lay a robust foundation for extensive engineering expertise, coupled with an important understanding of the management and organization of business processes in companies.
In the advanced study period, you will gain in-depth knowledge of important, future-oriented management methods. The numerous business case studies and project work offer ideal opportunities to gain practical knowledge in areas such as conducting annual financial statement analyses, evaluating and deciding on investment alternatives, and developing strategically thought-out concepts — all in preparation for your future career. In addition, you will learn about exciting technologies in a practical way, from simulation to application, for example in our laboratories for foundry, machining, robotics, and laser technology.
Our graduates, with their distinctive interdisciplinary technical and economic expertise, start their careers as decision-makers and managers with excellent methodological and specialist knowledge.

Interdisciplinary and practical studies
The Process Design and Management program is a modern technical study program for a successful career in economics in the manufacturing sector.
This program is aimed at generalists. It will enable you to make the right decisions later in your career at the interface between technology and business. You will be able to routinely and reliably evaluate innovative technology for its economic feasibility. It is designed for future specialists and managers in the product development environment who enjoy successfully combining what is technically feasible with what is economically useful.
As a graduate with broad technical and business management expertise, you will be able to start your career in the following areas in particular:
- Purchasing and quality management
- Management consulting
- Project management
- Financial management
- Controlling
What makes this study program so special?
The focus is on practice - no dry cramming. The basics are taught in an interactive way and applied business case studies and exercises are carried out. Beyond the economic focus, students can also work independently in laboratory and workshop projects. The case studies include annual financial statement analyses, value-oriented management or strategic analyses of large companies.
Highlights:
The “international semester” offers you the option of studying time abroad without extending your studies. Students can choose from study places at partner universities (including in the USA, Japan, and South Africa). The fifth semester can also be completed as a practical study semester at a company abroad.
The optional “Green Technology and Economy” certification allows you to demonstrate your knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and resource-efficient technologies.
Close cooperation with laboratories offers unique experiences and initial practical experience.
In addition, it has a modular structure and is closely interlinked with the Manufacturing and Process Technology and Digital Processes and Systems Innovation programs in the first semesters.
