As a result of the research project, a consulting concept called "Cyber Security Check for SMEs" is available since 2024. It includes low-threshold initial cybersecurity advice for micro and small companies. It contains the most important basic measures for good cybersecurity in SMEs and is suitable for use by trained consultants..

The consulting process is divided into 4 stages: general awareness information, first impulse, primary consultation and in-depth consultation (see figure).

According to the experts, the initial impulse and the initial consultation decide whether cyber security measures are addressed and implemented by SMEs. At both stages, the length of the conversation is crucial in order to even get involved. For this reason, five to ten minutes were allocated for the initial impulse and one hour for the further initial consultation.

The advisory structure of the chambers and thus the human resources available there are of crucial importance for the implementation of these stages. A multiplier training course also developed as part of the project qualifies them to take on these tasks competently.
