Germany is a country poor in raw materials, and we are dependent on others not only for energy: critical metals and rare earths - without them, modern technology would not work. And if we had a fatal tie to Russia for natural gas, the critical partner for many other raw materials is China. How big is the damage, why are we dependent and how do we get away from it? Werner Eckert, SWR2 editor, discusses with Prof. Dr. Dagmar Goll from the management team of the Materials Research Institute (IMFAA) at Aalen University, Prof. Dr. Hubertus Bardt, Institute of the German Economy, Cologne, and Jakob Kullik, political scientist and author, Chemnitz. The approximately 45-minute roundtable discussion "SWR 2 Forum" was broadcast on SWR 2 on February 21 and can be listened to and downloaded here.
