More than 30 students from Aalen University visited TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH in Ditzingen. The excursion took place as part of the lectures "Advanced Laser Technology" and "Laser Technology 1 and 2" and aimed to bring the students into contact with industry. In addition, they could experience how their lecture content is practically applied in industry.

Thomas Harrer, head of the Laser Application Center at TRUMPF, first welcomed the group and gave an insight into the family-owned company and the business divisions at the Ditzingen location. He emphasized that TRUMPF invests much in research and development and always looks for motivated students. Afterward Daniel Flamm and Marc Sailer inspired the students with their technical presentations: They explained, for example, how to "send the light around the corner" in display processing or how to use ultrashort pulses to process surfaces and materials in a variety of ways. The students followed them attentively and asked many questions. After a tour of the Laser Application Center, during which the students were able to observe additive manufacturing and the non-contact cutting of glass, they used the lunch break to ask their hosts about the company.

"The students were enthusiastic. Many highlighted the additive manufacturing experience as a highlight, others the interesting presentations," summarizes lecturer Malena Lindenberger-Ullrich. She had organized the excursion together with Prof. Dr. Anne Harth. "This excursion again demonstrates the close cooperation between the university and TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH. For many years now, there has been a successful cooperation between the LaserApplicationCenter (LAZ) of Aalen University and TRUMPF on many long-standing joint research projects such as SmartPro and teaching events," also emphasizes Harald Riegel, President of Aalen University and head of LAZ.

Info: The students are already familiar with numerous laser systems and applications developed and used by TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH in Ditzingen from laboratory experiments at the university. These take place, among other places, in the laboratories of the LAZ at Aalen University as part of the lectures "Laser Technology 1 and 2" in the bachelor's degree programs "Mechanical Engineering / Production and Management", "Mechanical Engineering / Business and Management", "Mechanical Engineering / Digital Production" and "Optical Engineering". In addition, they deepen their knowledge in this field in the master's programs "Applied Photonics", "Advanced Materials and Manufacturing" and "Product Development and Manufacturing". The LaserApplicationCenter (LAZ), headed by Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel, works on research topics related to laser process technology in the fieight construction, electrical energy storage (battery technology), electromobility and additive manufacturing. The research is also carried out with students from the above courses mentioned above, who are thus involved in the work of an engineer at an early stage as research assistants.
