WELCOME TO AALEN UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2018

The German energy transition

The International Summer School at Aalen University of Applied Sciences offers you an exciting opportunity to make friends from all over the world and to develop your personal and academic skills. Our research staff are highly engaged in promoting the energy transition (Energiewende) on a local and regional basis. We will give you an insight into our approach. The program will take place between July 17th and July 28th, 2017.

The German Energiewende (energy transition) is a political concept that is regarded as a unique approach to move forward to a non-fossil and non-nuclear future. Germany as a highly industrialized nation aims at decentralizing its energy system and fostering energy efficiency.

This summer school offers a glimpse into the true nature of the Energiewende. You will learn about historical and political aspects, current developments and future visions. Furthermore, you will get a deep insight into how energy is generated in Germany using renewable, fossil and nuclear power.

Aalen University has taken on a leading role in the Energiewende in the Ostalb region. Since 2012 the Chair of renewable energies has initiated many local, thematically diverse projects. We address energetic efficiency in local companies as well as energetic self-sufficiency in rural communities. We work on transforming biogas into electrical power as well as on finding reasonable energy storage solutions. We cooperate with companies and regional energy suppliers, and even engage the local population in projects.

Be part of this experience, absorb new ideas and be inspired! We are looking forward to welcoming you!
