You can join us at any career level - from Bachelor's and Master's degrees to doctorates or staff positions in our laboratories / labs. We qualify you for a wide range of prospects in industry, research, teaching and other challenging fields of activity.

The program combines vocational training and research in one of the central research focuses of Aalen University of Applied Sciences, namely photonics. You will work on current scientific questions, develop your own research approaches and publish, to your results. In this way, you will deepen your specialist knowledge and at the same time strengthen important methodological and generic competencies.

Our mission and vision

1. To educate young people in the field of applied photonics at a high level at all academic levels - whether in the Bachelor's degree program in Optical Engineering, the Master's degree program in Applied Photonics or in our PhD program.

2. We want to consistently advance research at a high level with our students in our key areas. This includes focusing on individual research profiles and promoting collaboration between the working groups, consistently developing the research infrastructure and involving students in our research at an early stage.

3. We want to promote our network and internationalization and support our students. This includes committed partners in industry and research, internationalization with a focus on Africa and a focus on the needs of students.

First International Conference "Photonic Research for Industry" (ICPRI 2026)

The first international conference "Photonic Research for Industry" (ICPRI 2026) brings together supporters, sponsors, engineers and industry representatives to present current research results in photonics and promote the transfer of technologies from 1. academic (allgem.) to industrial application. The conference offers a platform for talks; lectures, poster presentations, discussions and networking and aims to lay the foundation for a lasting international network.

Scope of the Conference

The conference is centered around the theme "Photonic Research for Industry." Its primary goal is to showcase state-of-the-art research in optics and photonics and to highlight its practical applications and potential for industrial commercialization. As the inaugural meeting, ICPRI 2026 will lay the groundwork for a lasting international network of academic and industrial partners.

The program will feature keynote speakers, invited talks, and contributed oral and poster presentations focusing on a wide range of topics where photonics is a key enabling technology.
