Starting in the winter semester of 2025/2026, Aalen University will introduce two new English taught Bachelor’s degree programs: "Mechatronics Engineering" and "Mechanical Engineering." With this expansion, the university aims to attract not only international students but also German high school graduates, preparing them to become the highly skilled professionals of the future.

Aalen University has long been committed to fostering enthusiasm for STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)—both within Germany and on an international scale. The university’s existing range of seven Master’s programs taught fully in English will be complemented by these two new Bachelor’s programs in Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering in the winter semester of 2025/2026. Rector Prof. Dr. Harald Riegel emphasizes the broad benefits of this initiative: “This represents a win-win-win situation. STEM students gain access to promising career opportunities, our campus becomes even more diverse, and Germany as a whole strengthens its capacity for innovation and economic competitiveness.”

By offering these internationally oriented degree programs, Aalen University is actively contributing to the training of highly qualified specialists, further reinforcing its role as a leading institution in applied sciences.

Prof. Dr. Anja Dieckmann, Vice Rector for International Affairs, underscores the significance of this initiative: “With these programs, we offer highly qualified international high school graduates the opportunity to pursue their studies at Aalen University while establishing valuable connections with companies in our region during their practical training phases. At the same time, German students will develop even more advanced language skills and intercultural competencies, equipping them for the global job market.”

The introduction of these English taught Bachelor’s degree programs fosters a learning environment that extends beyond specialized academic training. International students benefit from a buddy program as well as a family program, facilitating their integration into the university and local community. Meanwhile, German students have the opportunity to study abroad at a partner university for one semester without extending the overall duration of their studies.

To provide a strong linguistic foundation, mandatory language courses are integrated into the first two semesters: international students undertake German language courses, while domestic students receive advanced English instruction.

Prof. Dr. Dieckmann highlights the broader impact of these initiatives: “These new programs foster an intercultural environment, strengthen language skills, and promote global perspectives—thereby increasing the attractiveness of both Aalen University and the Ostwürttemberg region.”
