We, 29. March 2023

A few days ago, we welcomed Lorenz Scherer to the LAZ team. The 27-year-old from Ellwangen is currently studying for a master's degree in "Advanced Materials and Manufacturing" (AMM) at Aalen University. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking and motorcycling and spending time with his friends.

Andrea Heidel (AH): Welcome to the LAZ! What semester are you currently in and what did you do before?

Lorenz Scherer (LS): I am in my first semester of the AMM program. Before that, I completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician for automation technology, then studied electrical engineering and worked for about 1.5 years at VARTA Microbattery GmbH in the PLC programming department.

AH: How did you know the LAZ and what attracted you to work here?

LS: I already knew the LAZ from an earlier project work and had great experiences here. The topic of laser material processing fascinated me even then.

AH: What will you be doing at the LAZ?

LS: I will be working on research questions related to the use of artificial intelligence to optimize additive manufacturing. I am already looking forward to the scientific work with super nice and technically excellent colleagues.

AH: We wish you a good start and much success!

Info: With the three-semester AMM program, Aalen University offers an attractive master's program that is almost unique in Germany. In contrast to the classic "Taught Master", the focus of the program is on applied research. More info is available here: https://www.hs-aalen.de/de/courses/.
