Numerous international students have graduated from the English-speaking Master Program Polymer Technology. One of them is Prof. Dr. Suchart Siengchin, who completed his degree at Aalen in 2002. Meanwhile, he is the President of our partner university King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok.

„Aalen is a region of outstanding beauty. It was at Aalen University, where I first had the opportunity to study in the field of Polymer Technology. In my home country, I will continue working on research in the field of polymers and polymer composite materials,“ expressed Siengchin in 2002.

Suchart Siengchin is an established scientist in the field of bio-based composite materials on the basis of natural fibers and bio-polymers. The native Thai has followed an exciting career since his Master’s Degree in Aalen: in 2004, Siengchin completed his Master of Science in Materials Research at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg.

In 2008, he completed his doctorate at the Institute for Composite Materials in Kaiserslautern, where he was involved in numerous research topics with natural fiber composites. Afterwards, he worked on a research project for Boeing at Perdue University in Indiana. In 2009, Siengchin returned to Thailand and was appointed as Professor of Production Technology at the Thai-German Graduate School that belongs to King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). He assumed numerous leadership functions at KMUTNB, and was appointed as Vice President in charge of research.

In 2016, Siengchin successfully defended his habiliation at the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz Technical University. With the title “Natural Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics“, the researcher presented a highly topical theme in research and application that has been the subject of his research for many years. Due to the natural resources in Thailand, natural fibers from flax, coconut, and sisal are produced in large quantities; which is of great interest for various textile and fiber-bound applications. In addition, these fibers are significantly more prize worthy than classic synthetic fibers of glass or carbon. Siengchin has recorded the application potential, the processing of natural fibers, and their combination with bio-based synthetics for “green“ composites in numerous research projects and has published internationally in renowned journals. In November 2016, he finally took office as President of KMUTNB.

A Meeting at ESIT2018

Nouran Kaoud, research associate of Prof. Dr. Achim Frick at the Institute of Polymer Science and Processing, met Suchart Siengchin in Thailand during the international trade fair ESIT. The third international conference “Engineering Science and Innovative Technology“ was located in the Mariott Resort Khao Lak in Thailand. There, Nouran Kaoud presented the Institute‘s current research findings. The conference primarily focused on the disciplines of engineering and the related fields of automotive technology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automation technology, and material technology, as well as engineering and innovation.
