BAKSecure launches a learning game on supply chain security

BAKSecure, a project of the Technische Akademie Schwäbisch Gmünd and Aalen University, has launched a new cybersecurity learning game focused on supply chain security. Anyone interested can go online, take on the role of an attacker, and explore vulnerabilities in interconnected business relationships in an interactive way. The game shows in a practical way how quickly disruptions at service providers can affect entire companies. Its aim is to raise awareness, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises, of the risks in their supply chains.

BAKSecure has developed a new learning game on cybersecurity in supply chains. In a virtual environment, players take on the role of attackers and try to target companies directly or through their suppliers, IT service providers, or infrastructure. This makes it clear how dependent businesses are on external partners and how quickly disruptions in the supply chain can lead to operational failures.

“In the past 24 months, there have been at least eleven known major software supply chain attacks, four of them in 2026 alone. Some affected millions of installations – in a single attack. And these are only software attacks. The issue is highly relevant right now and, unfortunately, will continue to concern us for some time. We want to enable companies to ask themselves the right questions: Where am I vulnerable? Where do I need to take action to protect myself?” says project manager and IT security professor Marcus Gelderie.

The game is aimed particularly at small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as anyone interested in better understanding where typical vulnerabilities lie and what they should look out for in their supply chains. The aim is to raise awareness of real-world risks in an accessible and practical way and to strengthen the security culture within companies.

The learning game, together with two other BAKSecure games, is available free of charge and without registration at: www.baksecure.de/spiele

BAKSecure is a project of the Technische Akademie Schwäbisch Gmünd and Aalen University. The project is part of Mittelstand-Digital. Through the Mittelstand-Digital network, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy supports digitalisation in small and medium-sized enterprises and in the skilled crafts sector.
