The responsible use of natural resources is a key societal challenge of our time and is at the heart of the iSPC’s research activities. Prof. Taha’s research vision encompasses the development of new materials that, as part of a circular economy, flow through one of two cycles (see figure): In the biological cycle (green), raw materials are returned to nature; in the technical cycle (orange), they remain in use indefinitely as products, modules, or materials.
This gives rise to three main research areas: sustainable materials, lightweight construction, and recycling. The results are always documented in a way that enables subsequent AI-supported material and process selection.
