Systems theory focused research groups based at Aalen University

Our research focus covers all aspects of the fields of complex systems theory and network science, especially mathematically-orientated and theoretical topics that have a clear relevance to physics, engineering and computer sciences, and even economics.

We are comprised of four research groups led by Professors Mahyar Mahinzaeim, Claus Feuchter, Dieter William Joenssen, and Orsolya Csiszár.

Lattice Boltzmann Methods

His group conducts research on kinetic theory of gases with a special focus on the development of Lattice Boltzmann methods for the simulation of turbulent flows, aeroacoustics, and microfluidics.

Infinite-Dimensional Systems

His group focuses on partial differential equations (PDEs), complex and functional analysis, and operator theory, sometimes applied to concrete problems in systems and control theory (particularly continuum mechanical or distributed parameter problems).

Industrial Data Science

His group focuses on developing and applying machine learning methods and statistical modeling for industrial as well as pure research purposes.

eXplainable Artificial Intelligence Systems

Her main research interest lies in developing explainable artificial intelligence methods for applications in complex systems. Her research group focuses on combining machine learning with existing knowledge, such as traditional rule-based approaches (neurosymbolic AI) and mathematical physics models (physics-informed computational methods).
