• The long idle time of employee vehicles is used to optimize (reduce) peak loads for electricity demand in companies.
• Load peaks can be avoided by actively controlling the charging power of electric vehicles at industrial companies.
• Due to the long idle time of electric vehicles, the vehicle battery can usually be fully charged despite reduced charging power by actively controlling the charging process.

Prof. Dr. Anna Nagl presented the results of the online survey "Development status and perspectives of smart city solutions" at the ZDE convention "Future 5.0"

Aalen/Oberkochen - What will the city of tomorrow look like? And how are local authorities preparing for the future challenges of a smart city? Professor Dr. Anna Nagl from Aalen University of Applied Sciences and the Centre for Digital Development (ZDE) investigated these questions. The results of the online survey, which were presented at the "Future 5.0" convention on October 24 at the Zeiss Forum, show that the topic is on the minds of smaller municipalities as well as millions: The topic moves smaller communities just as much as metropolitan areas with millions of inhabitants. However, the necessary resources for a comprehensive strategy are still lacking in many places.

The closing event at the 2019 Energy Day of our project partner ÜZW on 05.05.2019 attracted a large number of interested visitors. In addition to an extensive supporting program of the project partner ÜZW, we presented our research project results.

At our closing event at Energy Day 2019, Andreas Ensinger from our BMBF joint project partner ÜZW presented the project results to interested customers and other visitors.

ÜZW developed and presented a diorama to explain the business models developed in the project. This made it easy to explain the complex theoretical models.

On February 1, 2019, Kira Rambow-Höschele successfully defended her doctoral thesis at Glasgow Caledonian University with the title: 'An empirical study on the adoption of Emerging Mobility Services from the Consumer's Perspective'. The research focus was on the investigation/analysis of expected mobility behavior (modal split) in megacities in cooperation, cooperative venture, partnership, Sciences and Bosch.

How "smart" should cities become? What does integrated urban development for the city of tomorrow look like? A general classification of the topic "Smart City", as well as possible effects of the networking of all areas of life will be presented at the conference "Urban development - how smart will the city become?" on October 23, 2017 at the institution of higher education. The conference is being organized by the City of Aalen in collaboration, cooperation with the institution of higher education.

"The city of Aalen is working intensively on becoming a better networked city of the future. To this end, we will promote and actively shape digitalization processes in the fields (of) mobility, administration, environment, economy, business and life in the city and involve citizens and business players along the way," says Lord Mayor Thilo Rentschler.

A new, digital form of citizen participation is offered, for example, by the CO2-poor city research project at Aalen University of Applied Sciences under the Management of Prof. Dr. Anna Nagl. On the so-called open innovation platform hs-aalen.co-creator.de, all residents can share their opinions with people from the region, particularly on the topics of digital networking of local public transport, electromobility and the transformation of the energy market. Lord Mayor Thilo Rentschler cordially invites all citizens to actively exchange ideas on the online platform: "Use this opportunity to share and comment on your ideas and suggestions for a "Smart City Aalen" with experts and people from your area. With your contribution and your ideas on the Open Innovation Platform, you can help to make Aalen even smarter."

How do children imagine electromobility?

The film produced by the project team from Aalen University of Applied Sciences provides an answer to this question.

At the Open Day of the project partner, ÜZW AG, the young guests of the event (general) built electric cars according to their imagination.

These electric cars were then incorporated by students from Aalen University of Applied Sciences into a promotional film for a charging station operator concept using green electricity.

The project team would like to thank all participants who made it possible to create this film.

On 17.07.17, the Low CO2 City project team met with the grid operator Stromnetz Berlin GmbH to exchange experiences. The topics of controlled charging, the feed-in of renewable energies and the development of a nationwide charging infrastructure were discussed and experiences on the respective topics were exchanged. During the subsequent tour of the EUREF Campus, participants were able to see the charging infrastructure installed on the Campus and a prototype for autonomous driving. With new insights into electromobility in large cities, the next step is to transfer relevant research project results to rural regions.

At the final conference of the 15 joint projects in the BMBF funding priority "Service innovations for electromobility" on July 5, 2017 in Aachen, the Head of the Competence Centre for Innovative Business Models at Aalen University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Anna Nagl, and the Head /Director Networks of the project partner Überlandzentrale Wörth/I.-Altheim Netz AG B. Eng Andreas Ensinger, presented interim results of the low CO2 city research project. In addition, the first results already tested in practice; practical experience were presented to the numerous contracting parties at an information stand. As part of the DELFIN accompanying project "Service innovations for electromobility - funding of innovations and user orientation", a publication was presented with an overview of the participating projects in the BMBF funding priority and their results. At the Open Day of our joint project partner ÜZW AG on 25.06.17 in Essenbach, the project team from Aalen University of Applied Sciences informed the project partner's customers about the objectives and the first field-tested results of this research project. The public's interest in the topic of electromobility was directly reflected in the number of visitors to the project stand. The first results of the research project were discussed with visitors throughout the day. In order to bring electromobility closer to the young visitors of the event (general), they were able to realize their idea of an electric car with Lego building blocks. The vehicles built will be trained into a promotional film as part of the project. The E-Motion racing team from Aalen University of Applied Sciences supported the joint project's appearance by presenting its electric racing car, demonstrating to visitors that electromobility does not stop at motorsport. Many thanks go to the staff of ÜZW AG, who put on an outstandingly organized and well-attended event.

The aim of the BMBF joint project CO2-poor city is to develop commercial, profitable, financial, cost-effective business models and innovative services for low-CO2 individual transportation. Electromobility is to be linked to decentrally generated green electricity and tested in practice with various target groups(s) in a pilot phase.

The increased use of electric cars is becoming more and more important. Around a quarter of CO2 emissions are caused by road traffic. The so-called "diesel scandal" and regular particulate matter alerts in major cities also make this clear. However, as long as electric cars are powered by conventional electricity, electromobility is a milkmaid's calculation from a CO2 reduction perspective. Only when electromobility pays off for consumers, companies and local authorities will it become established.

Electromobility should be made more attractive through the use of decentrally generated green electricity. This requires the development of commercially, economical, profitable, sustainable and innovative business models. Users must be able to charge their vehicles anywhere with green electricity, or better still with self-generated green electricity. Only then does e-mobility make sense! The declared project goal of the BMBF joint project "Low CO2 city" is therefore to develop such beneficial business models with the involvement of actual and potential users.

The models developed will be tested in practice in a pilot phase involving the various target groups(s) in order to develop a low-carbon individual transport system that is better suited to the needs of the city. The individual solutions are particularly important, as electromobility must also make the leap into rural regions and medium-sized cities in order to achieve widespread use in Germany. These regions in particular have a high potential for decentralized green electricity generation, such as solar power.

A great deal of solar power is already being generated in the grid area of the joint project partner, Überlandzentrale Wörth/I.-Altheim Netz AG. By utilizing the solar power potential for charging electric cars, the research project will make an important contribution to the energy transition and thus also to climate protection and reducing CO2 pollution.
