SmartPro Management Project: Intensification Phase and Prospects for Sustainability (Smart-PROM)

During the initial phase, the SmartPro partnership was successfully established in the core region of East Württemberg. During the intensification phase from 2021 to 2024, the focus will now be on responding agilely to new challenges from business, science, and society; connecting research and transfer partners even more effectively; and capitalizing on emerging commercialization opportunities even more consistently.

In addition to general management tasks, Smart-PROM plays a key role in achieving objectives across the SmartPro action areas: research and development, networking and technology transfer, marketing, communication and dissemination, and long-term sustainability. Smart-PROM sees itself as a driving force, catalyst, bridge-builder, and guide. It exerts an equal influence on the University of Applied Sciences, the partnership network, and the region. To this end, the management team is closely integrated into a technology transfer network with regional and supraregional partners and actively shapes it.

SmartPro Management Project: Start-up Phase (SmartProM)

At the heart of SmartPro is the research and development of innovative materials and new processes to create and make available energy-efficient products of the future. To achieve this, to network the partners even more effectively, and to respond agilely to new challenges from industry, science, and society, efficient management structures and processes are required. These were established as part of the SmartProM management project (2017–2020) and have been continuously refined.

As the central point of contact and interface for all SmartPro partners—both within and outside the university—SmartPro Management has created synergies between existing and newly developed structures and processes. In addition to supporting the steering committee and quality management, the SmartPro Management team took on key responsibilities in research and innovation support as well as in technology transfer activities to more consistently realize commercialization and transfer potential. Networking and public relations efforts were also central to its work.

Steering Committee

The SmartPro Partnership’s Steering Committee supports the network’s strategic direction and further development. To this end, members typically meet every six months to discuss new project ideas and current developments. To incorporate a diverse range of perspectives, representatives from companies, economic development agencies, and research institutions are involved.

SmartPro // University of Applied Sciences Initiative:

Strong Universities of Applied Sciences – A Boost for the Region

The Aalen University of Applied Sciences has positioned itself among the top group of Universities of Applied Sciences nationwide with SmartPro. As one of ten Universities of Applied Sciences participating in the FH-Impuls funding program of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, it will receive approximately 10 million euros in funding over a period of just over eight years through 2025. The core objectives are the sustainable expansion of the regional transfer and cooperation network and the strengthening of research and innovation capacity. SmartPro contributes to addressing societal challenges such as climate protection, mobility, and digitalization.
