Electron beam melting (EBM) allows for the production of highly stable metal components at high temperatures and under vacuum. Prof. Dr. Markus Merkel and Prof. Dr. Miranda Fateri are both delighted with the new EBM system, which was co-funded by the European Union. The new system makes it possible to simulate manufacturing conditions on the Moon while simultaneously producing precise lightweight structures. Other planned applications for the EBM system include medical technology (implants) and robotics (lightweight gripping elements).
