Physician Assistant

• Interest in medicine and medical management - especially surgery, internal medicine, general medicine or emergency and intensive care medicine, anatomy and pharmacology.
• An interest in the practical treatment of patients - including physical examination of patients, emergency medicine measures, minor surgery, giving injections, setting up infusions (practical modules in a school, practical semester are part of the curriculum)
• Communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work under pressure

• After graduating with a Bachelor's degree, you can work in numerous fields (of) medicine - mainly in inpatient care in hospitals, outpatient institutions/practices or medical care centers (MVZ) as well as rehabilitation facilities.
• Typical activities include
  • OR assistance and OR management
  • Assistance in the emergency room and emergency room management
  • Assistance with selected invasive investigations/analyses (cardiac catheterization, etc.)
  • Assistance in the field of ) hospital management
  • Patient management (coordination of investigations/analyses and treatments; preparation of treatment plans in consultation with doctors; discharge management and doctor's letters)
  • Research and clinical studies
  • Teaching and training activities in medicine research

You can also deepen your knowledge further - e.g. in the Master's degree programme in Health Care Management or Master's degree programme in Health Technology Management.

To be admitted, you need the following formal prerequisites(s):

• University entrance qualification: General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification or university of applied sciences entrance qualification.
• NC - there is a minimum grade of admission (NC)
• Health certificate
• Pre-degree practical experience in a healthcare facility amounting to 30 attendance days (proof required by the end of the first academic semester via the pre-degree practical experience certificate )
• Completed vocational training in a healthcare profession is not required, necessary (so-called primary qualifying degree programme)
• Language skills: As the degree programme is offered in German, you need good German language skills (usually at level C1 or proof of examinations such as DSH or TestDaF if you come from abroad - this is stated in the admission information).

Application deadlines: You can only apply for the winter semester, typically via hochschulstart.de. The deadline is 15.07. (winter semester).

Study-integrated practical phases

The practical phases consist of pre-structured content so that you learn a defined catalog of practical activities - from physical examinations to the billing of assignments, credit, performance. Every semester, a three-week practical module ("clinical practice") takes place in a suitable healthcare facility. The 5th semester is the practical semester in a school practical semester. In addition, practical contents are liaised with in many different modules.

Furthermore, the laboratory / lab at the institution of higher education offers various opportunities to learn, practise and advance practical skills.

What exactly do the practical modules look like?

The practical modules ("Clinical Practice") usually take place in blocks of three weeks during the semester.

• For Clinical Practice 1, 2, 3 and 7, you must find a suitable internship yourself. We are happy to support you with this. The individual practical modules can also be completed abroad after prior recognition by the Director of the Practical Placements Officer / (US: Internships Officer).
• For quality assurance reasons, the practical training modules, Clinical Practice 4, 5, 6 and the practical semester can only be completed in institutions with which Aalen University of Applied Sciences has a cooperation contract. These are currently the Ostalb Clinics, the Robert-Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart and the hospital in Heidenheim.

Yes, in the 6th academic semester there is the possibility of a study abroad stay. There are basically two options for studying abroad:

1. at a partner university of Aalen University of Applied Sciences,
2. at a freely electedinstitution of higher education abroad.

The starting point for studying abroad is always an advisor from the International Center.
