A new selection procedure has been launched in the program Aufstiegsstipendium of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The funding is specifically aimed at students with vocational training and supports university studies up to the first academic degree. Application is possible before the start of studies, students can apply until the end of their second semester. The first step in the three-stage selection procedure is the online application.

With this type of funding, above-average performance (compared to the average performance of students in the same subject, discipline) is just as important as social commitment and personality.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports 13 scholarship funding organizations that award scholarships to young people whose personality and talents are expected to lead to special assignments, credit, performance at the institution of higher education. In addition, the applicant should be socially committed. The scholarship funds are the same for all scholarship funding organizations; an application must be submitted directly to the organization itself.
German and EU-European students and doctoral candidates can apply for the scholarship, as well as people who meet the criteria accordingly to § 8 BAföG (German Federal Training Assistance Act) (BAföG), national student grant). A further prerequisite(s) is admission to Studies or doctorate at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education in Germany.

The Avicenna-Studienwerk, one of the 13 scholarship funding organizations, aims to support talented Muslim students and doctoral candidates by offering scholarships. The scholarship consists of financial funding and non-material funding, which includes a variety of educational events. Applicants are expected to show above-average assignment, credit, performance and commitment to social causes.
Muslim high school graduates and students who are enrolled at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education in Germany can apply for the scholarship. It should be noted that students must still have at least 5 semesters of the Standard duration of the degree program to complete at the time of application.
An application must be submitted by April 1 or October 1 of each year. Funding then begins in the following semester.
The Otto Benecke Foundation offers courses and advisory services, guidance, advice for young immigrants.
Since 1965, the foundation's funding under the Guarantee Fund has helped more than 400,000 immigrants to continue, subsequent, follow-up or complete their vocational training in Germany. The aim of the foundation is to achieve rapid social integration and to continue, subsequent, follow-up vocational training interrupted in the country of origin. The allowances can include, for example, course costs for Abitur, university entrance qualification and German language courses, learning and integration allowances, grants; subsidies for living expenses, private tuition and much more.

Scholarships from the Hanns Voith Foundation are awarded to needy and talented young people from the Heidenheim area as well as needy and talented staff from companies belonging to the Voith Group and their children to pursue and perfect their studies at universities and technical colleges in the field (of) natural sciences, engineering and economics. Application is possible from the second study semester and the funding includes the duration of the standard duration of the degree programme.

Who can apply?
Students or doctoral candidates, doctoral students from all degree programmes who are enrolled at an institution of higher education in Germany and are at least in their third semester can apply.
Scholarships are awarded in four categories:
Studies - for good assignment, credit, performance in Studies
Social - for commitment to social causes (outside the university)
Science - for assignment, credit, performance
International - for a completed or ongoing project or internship, work placement, practicum abroad
Aktion Luftsprung - Scholarship for young people with chronic diseases
As part of this scholarship, up to three young talents per year are offered support in their vocational training or Studies. Candidates with hereditary diseases as well as other chronic illnesses who approach their vocational training and career choice with motivation and commitment and thus also set an example for other chronically ill people are funded.
The funding program, scholarship programme of the Bowel Disease Foundation is aimed exclusively at young people with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
