Application, admission and enrolment

Our university's online application portal opens for applications for the winter semester from mid-April and for applications for the summer semester from mid-October. You can use this portal to apply for any of our NC-free degree programmes, be it Bachelor's or Master's. If you are interested in one of our NC Bachelor's programs (Physician Assistant, Business Psychology, Business Law), please apply for it via Hochschulstart.
 

For NC-free, German-taught Bachelor's and Master's programmes, the application deadline is the first Friday after the first day of classes. You can therefore start your Studies directly from the Enrolment.

For German-taught NC Bachelor's programs, the application deadline is 15 July (for applications for the winter semester) or 15 January (for applications for the summer semester) of each year.

For German-taught NC master's programs, the application deadline is June 15 (for applications for the winter semester) or December 15 (for applications for the summer semester) of a given year.

For English-taught Bachelor's and Master's programs, the application deadline is 15 March (for applications for the winter semester) or 15 September (for applications for the summer semester) of each year.

To apply for a Bachelor's degree at an institution of higher education in Baden-Württemberg, a certificate of participation in the so-called aptitude test or university interest test is required. The interest profile does not apply in this context. These tests are free of charge and take about 15 to 20 minutes. You can take the tests either at was-studiere-ich.de or on Higher Education Compass .

Applicants for our English-taught degree programms do not need this aptitude test.

An application for (financial) hardship assistance, appeal on grounds of extenuating circumstances when applying for a place on a Bachelor's or Master's programme allows preferential admission for applicants for whom a rejection would represent exceptional hardship. Proof must be provided of compelling health or social reasons that make immediate admission necessary. The application, request and detailed supporting documents (e.g. doctor's certificates, medical certificates) must be uploaded to the applicant portal by the application deadline.

Applicants who can present a reason that is in the public interest, why they absolutely must study at Aalen University of Applied Sciences, can submit an request for local admission. For NC-free Bachelor's programs, the notices are regularly sent out during the application period. As soon as your application documents are complete, you can expect to receive notice. Once the semester fees have been paid and proof of health insurance has been provided, we will enrol you.

For NC Bachelor's programs, you will receive an offer of admission via Hochschulstart in the days following the application deadline. Please accept this offer first. You must then enrol within the enrolment period communicated to you.

For all master's programmes, you will first receive an offer of admission, which you must accept. You must then enrol within the notified enrolment period.

Please refrain from making telephone or electronic inquiries regarding the processing status of your application. You can view this at any time in the online application portal.

You can only apply once in the field of NC-free Bachelor's programs in the university's own applicant portal, as this application leads to enrolment without separate admission as soon as all formal prerequisites have been met.

For NC Bachelor's programs via Hochschulstart and all master's programs, you can apply for three degree programmes per semester. Please note that you can only accept the admission offer for one degree programme.

You can apply for admission if you have a university entrance qualification in terms of § 58 State Higher Education Act (LHG). This includes in particular the general higher education entrance qualification, university of applied sciences entrance qualification or subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification.

In some cases, a pre-degree practical experience is required for Bachelor's programs. Please contact the degree program accordingly with regard to the contents. The pre-degree practical experience can be submitted by the end of the stage 1 studies.

In the Bachelor's program Physician Assistant, proof of health-related eligibility115 KBPDF, suitability, aptitude in the context of the professions of Physician Assistant must also be submitted for enrolment.

A first university degree qualifying you to enter a profession that consists of the contents of the Master's degree you are aiming for. In addition, most of our master's programmes require a certain minimum grade (usually 2.5). In some master's programmes, aptitude tests are also carried out.

In some cases, subject-specific prerequisites must also be met, such as a certain number of ECTS credits (ECTS - European Credit Transfer System) in relevant fields of expertise or proof of specific modules. If individual contents are missing, these can be made up in part. Depending on the language of instruction, proof of corresponding language skills may also be required, such as German language skills for degree programmes taught in German or English language skills for degree programmes taught in English.

Additional supporting documents and requirements may also be requested, including a letter of motivation or a curriculum vitae in tabular form. For working professionals, relevant work experience is a prerequisites. In many cases, it is possible to apply even if the Bachelor's degree has not yet been fully completed, provided only a few examination components are still missing and a current transcript of records is submitted.

Application to a higher semester is possible if the desired degree programme has free capacity in the semester applied for, you have already studied this or a comparable degree programme and have not yet lost your entitlement to take the final exams. You must also provide proof of a counseling interview for the Application. For this, please contact the relevant academic advisory services of the degree program in question in advance and arrange an appointment.

In Baden-Württemberg, most public institutions of higher education do not charge regular tuition fees for a first degree course, but fees are still payable and under certain circumstances.

All students at public institutions of higher education in Baden-Württemberg must pay a so-called Semester Contribution per semester. This is typically made up of

• an administrative fee from the state
• a contribution to the student services organisation (Studierendenwerk) (for Cafeterias, halls of residence, advisors) and
• a contribution to the student body (AStA)

This Semester Contribution is a prerequisite for you to be and remain enrolled.

In addition to the Semester Contribution, there may be additional fees.

International students without EU/EEA citizenship must pay tuition fees of €1,500 per semester at public institutions of higher education in Baden-Württemberg if they take up a regular Bachelor's or Master's degree course. If you already consist of a degree and are considering a second course of studies, you will have to pay tuition fees for a second course of studies of €650 per semester. These fees apply in addition to the Semester Contribution.

Tuition fees apply for Master's programs offering continuing education or for working professionals.

The semester begins on March 1 (summer semester) or September 1 (winter semester). The official start of the semester marks the beginning of all semester-related organizational processes, such as the validity of enrolment, student identity cards, student IDs and access to university-wide services.

The first day of classes is after the formal start of the semester. In the summer semester, courses usually begin in mid-March, in the winter semester at the beginning of October. The time between the start of the semester and the first day of classes is often used for organizational preparations, introductory courses, preliminary courses or individual lecture timetables.

Would you like to refresh your knowledge on various topics and have sufficient education? Then you can enrol as a guest student in one of our NC-free degree programmes.

You must fulfill the following prerequisite(s):

1. University entrance qualification, equivalent degree or sufficient education,
2. submit an applicant to the degree program accordingly before the first day of classes and
3. Payment of the applicable fees based on the official notification of tuition fees.

The guest auditor permit is issued for one semester at a time. The amount of the fee is set out in the university's regulations and depends on the scope of the elected modules:

• up to 4 WCH 60.00 €/semester
• up to 8 WCH 120.00 €/semester
• over 8 WCH 150.00 €/semester

Please note that you are not allowed to take a test as a guest student. It is also not possible to have your participation in courses recognized at a later date in any Studies you may be pursuing.

At the beginning of your Studies you will receive a multifunctional smart card. This has various functions:

1. Cash card – you can top up money and pay with the card in the Aalen University of Applied Sciences cafeterias and the Aalen University of Applied Sciences Cafeteria.
2. Student identity card – the smart card serves as a student identity card with which you can receive discounts at various locations. You also need the student identity card, student ID to take examinations (proof of enrolment).
3. Copy card – you can use the smart card and the amount you have topped up to make copies at the public photocopiers at Aalen University of Applied Sciences.

If you have not yet enrolled, none is required, necessary. Please withdraw your Application in the online application portal.

If you have accepted the offer of admission or have enrolled and have renounced your university place before the start of the semester (01 March or 01 September), please inform the Admissions office by email.

Exmatriculation is required after the start of the semester.
