Start of Studies at Aalen University

Before you start your studies, Aalen University offers you a preliminary course in mathematics and physics. This "preliminary course" takes place on average three weeks before the start of lectures in the first semester. Get to know your future fellow students in the preliminary course, polish up your maths and physics knowledge and also learn how to learn best, manage your time and deal with stress during your studies. You will also find all further information in your admission documents.

Aalen University provides lecture plans for all students in the "StarPlan" program. Here you will always find the current plans for your semester. Select your degree program and the program will generate your current lecture plan. If you subscribe to your plan, you will also always be informed live of any room or time changes, or if your lectures are canceled. StarPlan also provides you with your examination schedule towards the end of the semester.

You received your student ID card with your enrollment documents. This chip card will accompany you throughout your studies. You can use it to borrow books from the library, pay in our cafeterias, the canteen and coffee machines as well as for your copies at the university printers. The card also serves as proof of your student status.

To use your student ID card as a payment card, you must first top it up. You can do this conveniently at one of our card machines using your EC card. You will find card machines in the cafeteria in Beethovenstraße, in the canteen, in the library or in the copy room in G2 on the Burren. Simply have your EC card ready and follow the instructions on the screen to top up your card.

In the first semester, you will receive a validated student ID card, i.e. the current semester is printed directly on the card. During the course of your studies, you will always have to re-validate after re-registration for the coming semester. There are special validation stations for this. These are located in Beethovenstraße in the cafeteria and in front of room 271 b. On the Burren, the validation machine is located in the library.

In our Learning Management System "Canvas" you will find everything you need for learning. Teaching and learning materials for your courses are provided here. You can take part in online or hybrid lectures, if these are offered in your degree program, receive up-to-date notifications about your courses and can, for example, call up group assignments for project work. Aalen University also offers other digital tools such as Zoom, DigiExam or bwGPT, which you can use during your studies.

You must register for your examinations each semester. You can do this online via QIS using the same access data as for other university services. Make sure you pay attention to the registration deadlines, which you will find in the examination schedule. You can also find your examination schedule in StarPlan.

To re-register at Aalen University, use the university's online portal, where you will find the online application for re-registration. There you can also transfer the semester fee and download the corresponding certificates after you have successfully re-registered. Once you have re-registered, nothing stands in the way of your next semester at the university.
