Citavi

With Citavi you can administer your literature, search library catalogs and specialist databases, organize knowledge, collect citations and automatically create bibliographies in different citation styles in accordance with standards. Citavi only works with Windows.

Aalen University of Applied Sciences has purchased a Citavi campus license.

Training on Citavi takes place every semester, e.g. via the general studies part of the degree program, self-study materials are available on request via bibliothek[at]hs-aalen.de. If you have any questions or problems, please also contact this email address directly.

By using Citavi, you agree that your personal data may be stored and processed outside the EU, where data protection standards may not be comparable to those in the EU. Download the Citavi 7 setup
When you first launch Citavi, activate your Citavi licence key via the launch wizard by requesting it via your personal account. Use your university email for this purpose. In case of problems: see also the instructions, tutorial of Citavi.

Download the settings file from Aalen University in the Citavi start window under "Import settings". You will then have access to some of the citation styles known to the library as well as a selection of suitable catalogs for your research.

Zotero

Zotero is a free, open-source reference management program, that helps you to efficiently collect, administer and cite your sources. The bibliography is created automatically and various citation styles are available.

Training courses on Zotero take place every semester, e.g. via the general studies part of the degree program. If you have any questions or problems, please contact bibliothek[at]hs-aalen.de.

Installing Zotero

To install Zotero, visit the official website. The site automatically recognizes your operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux) and offers you the appropriate version for download.
You should also install the Zotero Connector, a browser plugin that allows you to capture literature directly from your web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari). With just one click, you can save websites and articles to your Zotero library.
A plugin for your word processor (Word, Libre Office etc.) is automatically installed with the Zotero installation.
Zotero is also available for smartphones and tablets.

Functions of Zotero

Collect and organize literature: You can import literature from various sources and organize it into collections.
Create citations and bibliographies: Zotero supports numerous citation styles, so you can format your work accordingly to your institution's requirements.
Synchronization: With a free Zotero account, you can synchronize your library across different equipment and collaborate with others on projects.
Notes and tags: You can add notes to entries and tag them to make your literature even better organized.
Cloud storage: Zotero offers you the option to store up to 300 MB of files in the Zotero cloud for free. If you need more storage space, you can take advantage of paid options.

Equipment and services on site

Equipment for students

Students will find a number of things in the library to make their stay more pleasant. These include Table lamps for the study boxes, staplers, hole punches, a cutting machine, pens and more. To ensure a quiet atmosphere, there are noise lamps on each floor of the library. There is also an earplug machine. Lockers are located on level zero. Keys for these can be borrowed, loaned at the Service Point.

Eating and drinking in the library

Drinks in closed containers and small snacks may be brought in and consumed. There is also a water dispenser in the entrance area of the library.

Copy machine and book scanner

There is a photocopier on the ground floor near the entrance. Here you can either make copies or print documents from a flash drive. You will need your student card for this. External customers should contact the Service Point. There is also a book scanner on the ground floor. The scanned pages can be saved to a stick in various formats or sent to your mobile phone using the scan-to-mobile functions.

Vending machines: top up, pay, validate

There are various machines in the library where you can either pay library fees or top up your university card. Student cards can also be validated. The machines are available during the library's opening hours.

Individual workstations

1st floor and 2nd floor

Along the window front on the 1st and 2nd floors and in front of the balconies there are individual workstations equipped with electricity, lamps and comfortable chairs on castors. If it's not quiet enough here, you can use the earplug machine.

Louder, more communicative fields (of) can be found in the group study room (BUS) on the 2nd floor and on the ground floor

There are soundproofed learning boxes for individual learners along the window front on the 2nd floor. A power connection is available. The learning boxes offer the opportunity to withdraw to concentrate on learning. There is also a more communicative field of) on the 2nd floor in the group study room (BUS room).

Armchairs for individual learning

1ST FLOOR

On the 1st floor there are armchairs that create a very quiet atmosphere due to their shape. They are equipped with laptop tables. These vacancies, (free) places do not need to be reserved.

2nd floor, BUS room

There are several group work tables on the 2nd floor in the BUS room, which can accommodate a maximum of 8 people. The room is also equipped with:

power connections
a flipchart
Office materials (pens, stapler, hole punch...)

GROUND FLOOR

On the ground floor of the library there are 2 study boxes for a maximum of 4 people. Power connections are available.

Ground floor on the balcony

Three computer workstations are available on the balcony on the ground floor. Registration is done with the Campus IT identifiers. External customers receive a guest account at the service point which is valid for the respective day.

Balconies

Two of the library's three balconies are furnished with tables for studying during the warmer months. The balcony on the ground floor is furnished with sofas and armchairs. These vacancies, (free) places do not need to be reserved.
