Makerspace invites: Colors of Function
Beyond Aesthetics: Ergonomics and Inclusion in Color Design
By Eran Franco

  • Does a designer need to consider the user's skin color?
  • Does the coloring of a drug affect its effectiveness?
  • Can specific colors influence human physical performance?

Together, these questions point to a broader dimension of color in design: its influence on user experience extends far beyond the sensory-visual domain, affecting physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.

Drawing on physical and cognitive ergonomics, perception research, and inclusive design principles, this lecture presents guiding frameworks for understanding how color interacts with the human body and mind. It further demonstrates that ergonomic and inclusive color strategies do not come at an aesthetic cost. On the contrary, when integrated thoughtfully, they can strengthen brand identity, reinforce visual language, and enhance overall design coherence. The Makerspace invites everyone to this interactive public lecture equally engaging for designers, engineers and anyone with an interest in color and design.
